The current pandemic situation does not have a definite end date in sight, so most food businesses are eagerly shifting to a takeout business model. If your food business is moving towards a takeout model, here are 5 best practices you will have to keep in mind:

1. Keep transactions contactless.

Maintain contactless procedure in all steps of the food takeout transaction process, from the online website ordering, the online payment, order pick up to the final order delivery. As much as possible we want to prevent any physical contact with the customer in the whole transaction process.

2. Practice worker safety in food handling

On top of basic food handling safety like kitchen cleanliness, separation of raw and cooked items, proper cooking techniques, pay special attention to worker safety and cleanliness: constant temperature checks, frequent hand washing, use of face masks / face shields and frequent use of disinfectants.

3. Food packaging need to be tampered proof

Aside from keeping food warn during delivery, ensure that the packaging is tamper proof to alleviate customer anxiety on food safety. There is no need for fancy packaging, simple solutions like adhesive tapes that leave a mark when pulled, or caps that break when opened, would suffice.

4. Use a TV Display Board to call out the order numbers that are ready.

Whether the customer herself or an order taker will pick up the food order, it is best to use a TV Display to call out the order that is ready for dispatch. A takeout number TV display system can efficiently carry out the final step of the food takeout process.

5. Increase online marketing and customer engagement

Pay attention to your online presence not only in terms of marketing efforts, but also in interactions with your customers. It would be best to have customer service across multiple online platforms: Facebook Messenger, Twitter, WhatsApp, SMS to handle customer inquiries and any issues.

Our company Ivant Technologies developed the OrderReady Mobile App. This iOS / Android mobile app can connect to a smart TV or a PC Monitor and display the order numbers that are ready for pick up. A short introductory video on OrderReady can be viewed here https://youtu.be/uRsZTNVwU6E
